Craig is located on the western coast of Prince of Wales Island. Located in the Tongass National Forest, Craig offers fishing, hiking, hunting, boating, and wildlife viewing. As the largest town on the Prince of Wales, Craig offers many options for lodging, meals and charter boat rides, and is a convenient home base for visitors on Prince of Wales Island.
Get here by plane or boat. From Ketchikan, take a direct float plane ride to Craig, flying into the Klawock Airport, or taking the Interisland Ferry to Hollis. Craig is on the Prince of Wales Island road system and you can access most of the island by vehicle from Craig.
Craig was once known as “Fish Egg”, but around 1908 the community took the name Craig after Craig Millar, who was put in charge of the new fish curing and cold storage facility developed at that time. Explore old logging roads in Craig, drive the scenic byway, Explore El Capitan, the largest of 500 caves on Prince of Wales Island about two hours from Craig.
